 THINKING GREEN!

SymbioSus Sustainability Consulting helping to ‘green’
MetroWest Chamber of Commerce’s 2nd Annual
“Taste of MetroWest” Event

Southborough, MA, March 8, 2012 – SymbioSus Sustainability Consulting, Inc., a sustainability consulting firm focused on helping small to medium-sized organizations increase their profitability and competitive advantage by reducing their environmental impact, announced today that it is working to help the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce make its upcoming 2nd Annual Taste of MetroWest event a greener and more environmentally friendly event.  The 2nd Annual Taste of MetroWest, hosted by the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce, will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2011, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel & Conference Center, and will showcase many of the top restaurants, beverage purveyors, and cultural institutions in the MetroWest region.  The event is open to the public, with advance tickets priced at $25, and is expected to be an outstanding evening of enjoyment of some of the best food, beverages, and culture that the MetroWest area has to offer.

Plans are also in place to make the event as environmentally friendly as possible, and SymbioSus® is providing its expertise and support to help make the event as green, sustainable, and as close to a zero-waste event as possible.  Numerous sustainability actions are being taken throughout all aspects of the event.  Examples include minimizing event waste through composting food waste and using compostable and/or recyclable service ware, choosing recycled paper and eco-friendly printing processes for any signage and required hard-copy promotional materials and communications, donating any usable leftover food products to a local food pantry, and minimizing the overall impact of the preparations, execution, and clean-up of the event.  In addition, SymbioSus will serve as the Carbon Offset Sponsor of the event, purchasing carbon offsets for the emissions from the event that cannot be eliminated, as well as the emissions due to attendees’ travel to the event.

Bonnie Biocchi, President and CEO of the MetroWest Chamber, said, “With nearly 70 exhibitors confirmed and over 1,000 attendees expected, this year’s 2nd annual Taste of MetroWest will be even bigger and better than last year’s very successful inaugural event.  We are delighted to partner with SymbioSus Sustainability Consulting on making it as green an event as possible.  We feel confident that promoting an “environmentally friendly” model is not only beneficial for the environment but cost effective as well.  SymbioSus Sustainability Consulting has both the expertise and industry connections to assist us in planning a first-rate event while simultaneously minimizing the environmental impact of the event. This is important to our sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees, and it fits with the mission of the Chamber.”

SymbioSus President Bryan Sheehan said, “The MetroWest Chamber does a great job of promoting the vibrancy of the business and larger community in the MetroWest region, and the Taste of MetroWest has instantly become a ‘must-attend’ event highlighting many of the best food and beverage providers in the area.  SymbioSus is pleased and to be helping to make the event as environmentally-friendly as possible.  People increasingly expect events such as this one to minimize their environmental impact, because it just makes good sense to minimize waste wherever we can, and because it demonstrates that a high-quality and very enjoyable event can also be increasingly eco-friendly.”
